Dental Care for All Ages

A healthy smile is a beautiful smile. At Dr. Joyce Lui Dental, our goal is to help you maintain your healthy smile throughout life.

Preventive dental care is important through all stages of life. By practicing good oral hygiene at home and scheduling regular oral check-ups, you can help keep your smile bright and healthy for many years to come.

Our office is dedicated to helping you ensure the best oral health for all members of your family. Preventive general dentistry is essential to maintaining the health of your teeth and gums. At each recall visit, we conduct a thorough cleaning, but we also check for signs of tooth decay and disease so we can detect and treat problems early.

Checkups and Cleanings

During your regular check up, Dr. Lui and our hygienist will

  • Check for any problems that you may not see or feel
  • Look for any signs of tooth decay/cavities
  • Inspect your teeth and gums for gingivitis and signs of periodontal disease
  • Screen for any signs of Oral Cancer
  • Provide a thorough teeth cleaning, rinse and polish

When problems occur, we offer suitable treatments including Fillings, Root Canal Therapy and Extractions.

Oral Cancer Screening

Our office is not only dedicated to your smile, we are also dedicated to your overall health and wellness. Like many kinds of cancers, if left undiagnosed, oral cancer can be life threatening.

The most common symptoms of oral cancer include:

  • Red or white spots or sores anywhere in the oral cavity
  • A sore that bleeds easily or does not heal
  • A lump, thickening or rough spot
  • Pain, tenderness, or numbness anywhere in the mouth or on the lips
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving the jaw or tongue

Early Detection of oral cancer can improve the chance of successful treatment. Aside from receiving an oral cancer screening during your check up at our office, there are many things you can do to help prevent oral cancer including avoiding all tobacco products, drinking alcohol in moderation, limiting your exposure to the sun and always wearing UV-A/B blocking sun protective lotions on your skin as well as your lips.

Root Canal Therapy

When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp tissue and germs can cause an infection inside the tooth. If left untreated, an abscess may form causing pain and swelling. This can cause injury to your jawbones and be detrimental to your overall health. Without proper treatment, your tooth may have to be removed.

Teeth that require root canal therapy are not always painful. However, signs that you may need a root canal include severe toothache, chewing or biting pain, prolonged sensitivity or pain to hot and cold temperatures, a dark discoloration of the tooth and swelling and tenderness of the gums.

During the root canal treatment, Dr. Lui will remove the affected tissue and seal the interior of the tooth and finally fill the tooth with a dental composite. If your tooth has extensive decay, Dr Lui may suggest restoring the tooth with a crown to strengthen it from further damage.

As long as you continue to care for your teeth and gums with regular brushing, flossing and check ups, your restored tooth can last a lifetime.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom Teeth are the molars found at the very back of your mouth. They usually show in a patient’s late teens or early 20’s. However, sometimes wisdom teeth may become impacted due to a lack of room in the jaw or the angle of entry.

When a wisdom tooth is impacted, it most likely will need to be removed. If not removed, you may develop tenderness, swelling or severe pain.

Each patient’s situation is unique. However, if Dr. Lui recommends removal of your wisdom teeth, it is best to have them removed sooner rather than later. The earlier you have them removed, the more likely the roots will not have fully formed and the surrounding bone will be less dense, making the extraction easier, with a shorter recovery time.
